SeaMonkeys™!

These are more silly animals I am growing at home. These may or may not become fish food at some point. Here's the best pics I could get before I got frustrated. Capturing pictures of half-inch long creatures that won't stop moving isn't easy! Read all about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seamonkeys

Ubuntu (Linux)

This past weekend I installed and configured Linux for the first time. My friend wanted a free operating system and Ubuntu was suggested by another friend of his.

I am very impressed with the operating system. I did have one problem with the install, namely, getting his wireless modem to work. I finally found a wrapper program that allows Ubuntu to use the Windows driver for the modem. After finding that, it worked like a gem.

Another wonderful add-on for Ubuntu is Wine. Its a Windows Emulator. Yes, you can run some Windows software on Linux! I installed Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and he says it loads faster and runs better than it ever did on Windows!

I highly recommend Ubuntu for anyone looking for a free operating system, or anyone that just wants something different! Check out the interface below. Click on it for fullsize.

Dexter

For everyone out there that hasn't seen it yet, what are you waiting for?  Dexter is on Showtime.   Its a story of a serial killer that only kills very bad people.  He also happens to be on the police force.  The writing for the show is incredible.  Check it out!  http://www.sho.com/site/dexter/home.do

Yael Naim

This is my new favorite artist. Her voice is superb. Her style is lovely. She's a French citizen of Jewish descent and about half the songs on the album are in Hebrew.  If you don't speak Hebrew, consider them instrumentals!  ;)

Every song on the album is a gem. GET IT NOW!

Cranberry Salsa Dip with Cream Cheese

Thanks to Tara and Ryan for this recipe!  I was assured its not a family secret.  It was the best hors d'oeuvre I've ever had.

Cranberry Salsa Dip with Cream Cheese

1 (12-ounce bag) or 3 cups fresh cranberries, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup minced green onions
2 small (approximately 2 tablespoons) jalapeno peppers, cored, seeded and minced
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, minced
2 tablespoons finely grated fresh ginger
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese
Cranberries and/or cilantro sprigs for garnish

Rinse, drain, and pick over cranberries, (discarding all that are soft or bruised). Place them in a food processor; pulse until finely chopped but not mushy.

Place crushed cranberries in a bowl; mix together with onions, jalapeno peppers, sugar, cilantro leaves, ginger, and lemon juice. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 4 hours so flavors develop (salsa will be too sharp and tart to begin with).

On a serving plate, place cream cheese; cover with the dip. Garnish, if desired, and served with crackers.
